Refined wood vinegar

Traded worldwide as pyroligneous acid, wood acid, liquid smoke or mokusaku. Ours is decanted to strip the tar fraction, then run through seven filtration stages and delivered at pH 2.4–2.6 — clean enough to apply to soil and plants without the phytotoxicity that gives this product its mixed reputation.

How it is refined

01Condensate captureSmoke from carbonisation is drawn through long metal condensing pipes and captured as liquid. Nothing is added and nothing is cut — it is the co-product of charcoal production from certified eucalyptus.
02Natural settling, three to six monthsThe raw liquid rests in tanks for months rather than days. Time is what separates the heavy fraction properly; rushing this stage is why cheap wood vinegar still carries tar.
03Extended decantationAn enhanced decantation stage extracts the separated tar fraction — the contaminant responsible for phytotoxic effects on roots and foliage — and diverts it to our wood tar stream.
04Seven-stage filtrationSuccessive filtration stages remove suspended solids and residual heavy fractions, down to the particle sizes that would otherwise settle in tanks and block application equipment.
05pH adjustment to 2.4–2.6Premium grade is brought into a controlled pH window, which makes it effective as a soil pH corrector in alkaline and calcareous soils on top of its other functions.
06Batch testing and fillingEach batch is tested and released before filling into jerrycans, drums, IBC totes or flexitank, with the certificate of analysis issued against that batch.

Buyer questions

How is this different from ordinary wood vinegar?
Two process steps. An extended decantation stage extracts the tar fraction, and seven filtration stages remove what remains. Most material on the market skips or shortens both, which is why buyers report burnt roots, blocked nozzles and sediment in storage. Ours is filtered to be applied, not just to be sold.
Why is the pH held at 2.4 to 2.6?
It is low enough to function as a soil pH corrector in alkaline and calcareous soils, which adds a second use to the same product, and it is a controlled window rather than whatever the batch happened to produce — so your dilution rates stay valid from shipment to shipment.
Is it the same as liquid smoke or pyroligneous acid?
They are names for the same family of product: wood vinegar, pyroligneous acid, wood acid, liquid smoke and mokusaku all describe the aqueous condensate of biomass pyrolysis. What differs between suppliers is refinement — and that is the part that decides whether it helps a crop or harms it.
Can you meet EU or organic-input requirements?
Requirements differ sharply by destination: EU classification and labelling rules, organic-input review in North America, import registration across much of Asia.
